In 2009, Furler himself stepped down, making him the final founding member of the band to leave. Furler was lead singer for a further 12 years, leading Newsboys through a successful second decade that saw the release of seven studio albums and a greatest hits compilation. In 1999, Peter Furler, moved from drums to lead singer, after fellow founding member John James left the group. The album spawned four no.1 hit singles for the band, who did not rest on their laurels, following up with a consecutive number one album in 1996 “Take Me To Your Leader.” In 1992, the band broke out onto the Christian music scene with their third album “Not Ashamed”, but it was not until 1995, after even more line-up changes that Newsboys found true success with their DOVE award winning album “Going Public”. The band quickly moved on from the lacklustre performance of their debut, releasing two successive albums in the early 90’s, with the line-up changing between each release. Newsboys were initially signed in 1987 by Refuge Communications, which is when they moved to the US, and released their debut album, “Read All About It.” John James, and Sean Taylor decided to start a band. The group began like many others when high school friends, in this case Peter Furler, George Perdikis.
